A few years ago, I was captivated by the sight of a poster, and headed to a place called Oki Island. Looking back, the scenery around the island was very symbolic, but I was moved by the overwhelming natural scenery. The place is now a UNESCO Global Geopark.

It has been a long time since the formation of the land.

It is a place where people can learn about the ongoing human activities in the area.

"Nothing is unnecessary (Everything that is important is here)" is a new luxury in the space, the food and the experience.

The new establishment is called "Ento" The Dozen Caldera spreads out before your eyes, and at dusk you are enveloped in the sun setting over the neighboring island of Nishinoshima. It's a time when you can naturally think about the continuous breathing of the earth.

This is a hotel that offers its guests a place to live. At the "Entò Walk" held every day, guests can take a walk around the hotel while listening to the island's staff talk about it. Here, we saw a landscape where learning and feeling are connected to protecting the earth in the future.

This is the "Naimo" that Ama Town promotes.

Ento Hotel is located on Ama island, one of the islands that is part of the collective “Okinoshima” island - a geopark off the coast of Shimane prefecture.

For that reason, the hotel has a fantastic 1F exhibition of the geologic significance and creation of the island in a volcanic eruption 6 million years ago.

The rooms are fantastic, the design, wood flooring, large glass windows and choice selection of teas and ecologically minded amenities remind us to be mindful and to minimize waste on what is a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The staff is absolutely wonderful, they are very courteous and personable. The breakfast has to be one of the best I have had in a hotel, with the right portions and local produce.

The photos created by Kentauros Yasunaga for the hotel, featured on the postcards gifted in the rooms is also a great way to welcome visitors and to introduce them to the majestic beauty of the surrounding area.

I can’t thank them enough for our great stay and experience. We look forward to going back again one day.

Great location right by the water and the Inter-island ferry port and tourist information office. Staff was really nice. There is a barbeque house and deck and you have the option to take your dinner there as mixed a barbeque of local seafood, meat and veggies. Recommended, especially if you've alteady had several days of ryokan food. Grill your own food and rice balls. Saw a great sunset. Dinner and Japanese breakfast included in lodging price. Old wing, where I stayed in large tatami room facing water, will be closing and should reopen with a nicer building in spring 2020 (Corrected from 2019).
