Tsukudaya

A 20 minute’s drive from Saigo Ferry Port, enjoy a relaxing stay in a former village headman’s residence situated on a leisurely countryside island.

Information

Tsukuda-ya is a traditional Japanese house that is over 120 years old. It was once a large residence belonging to a village headman, renowned even by the islanders for being ‘a place where one rarely got to see inside’.
While the kitchen and plumbing have been updated, the rest remains largely unchanged. The architectural style, antiques, and furnishings alone make it a delightful home to explore.

The spacious garden features a large wooden deck and a swing, offering areas for children and adults alike. An indoor kids' space is also provided, ensuring even our youngest guests can enjoy themselves.

Nestled slightly back from the road, Tsukudaya offers quiet, leisurely moments with the sounds of birds and insects echoing from the hills behind as your holiday soundtrack.

For dinner, we serve a menu crafted by our owner—a woman passionate about both cooking and travel, blending the island's seasonal ingredients with flavours influenced by her trips abroad.

  • Enjoy an exclusive stay in a spacious old farmhouse once owned by the village headman

  • Enjoy season island ingredients served family-style on large platters!

  • We also offer a plan featuring fresh sashimi made from the catch of the day

  • Wooden deck overlooking the garden
