Reviews of Oki Plaza Hotel

My wife and I came to the Oki Islands to do some research and see the famous Gorei-fuyru festival -- the running of sacred horses through the streets of Saigo Port down to the Tamawakasu-Mikoto Shrine. We settled on the Oki Plaza Hotel both for its superb location and the strength of its reviews. The hotel is in the final stages of a facelift. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the newly renovated corner suites on a high floor. The room itself was spectacular. We've stayed in fine hotels all over the world, but the views and amenities in our room made it stand out as the single best room we've been in. It had commanding 180-degree views of the Sea of Japan and the harbor of Saigo Port. The windows could all be opened, allowing in the beautiful sea air. One of the best features of the room was essentially a private onsen, a cedar tub with its own special view of the harbor. Included in our stay were two meals, breakfast and dinner. The Oki Islands are famous for their seafood, and both the elegant kaiseki dinners and the comprehensive breakfasts featured brilliantly prepared local delicacies. Setting aside the extraordinarily comfortable room and the delicious meals, the hotel staff worked tirelessly to accommodate our plans and requests. If you're an English speaker like us, be prepared to use Google Translate a fair bit. The Oki Islands aren't really set up for English-speaking visitors. But to us, that was a large part of their charm. In short, we can't wait to return to the Oki Plaza Hotel for another visit. We're already making plans!
